さて、僕は現在、こちらの本でバラの勉強をしています。
鈴木満男氏監修の『決定版 美しく咲かせる バラ栽培の教科書』という本です。
ちなみに、前回の学習内容はこちらです。
本日は16日目ということで、バラのピンチ（摘芯）について学びます。(p.130-p.133)
前回の内容で、「ベーサルシュート」「葉腋」という言葉が出てきたかと思いますが、本日はそれらが大事になってきますので、忘れた方のために軽く復習からやりますね( ^ω^ )
ではいってみましょう！
本日のメニュー
ベーサルシュート、葉腋とは（前回の復習）
ベーサルシュート・・・株の根もとや枝の途中から出てくる新しい芽のことをシュートと呼び、その中でも根もとから出る、将来主幹となるものを特にベーサルシュートと言う。
葉腋・・・葉のつけ根のこと。ここから脇芽が出ることが多い。
どうしてピンチが必要なのか？
ベーサルシュートは成長の勢いがある枝です。そのまま放っておくと、枝がホウキ状に分かれ、その先にたくさんの花芽をつけます。花芽を多くつけ過ぎると、その分栄養が分散し、枝そのものの成長が弱くなります。また枝が混みすぎて病気の原因にもなるのです。それを防ぐためにピンチ（摘芯）といって、枝先を摘み取る作業が必要になります。
ピンチをするべきバラは？
シュートは真夏の高温期をのぞいて春から秋まで発生します。
一季咲きのつるバラやオールドローズ、シュラブ形のイングリッシュローズなどは、ベーサルシュートは基本的にそのまま伸ばします。ピンチが必要なのは四季咲きのバラです。
一季咲き・・・春に１回だけ咲く性質。野生種やオールドローズに多い。
四季咲き・・・１年を通して開花を繰り返す性質。一般には5〜11月ごろまで繰り返し咲く。
ハードピンチ、ソフトピンチとは？
ピンチには２種類あります。
つまむ深さ（場所）によって「ソフトピンチ」「ハードピンチ」と呼ばれます。
枝の上の方の柔らかい所は手で摘み取ります。これを「ソフトピンチ」と言います。
一方、枝の深いところ（下の方）は堅いためハサミを使う場合があります。これを「ハードピンチ」と呼びます。
ソフトピンチした跡は、最終的にはほとんど目立たなくなるので、なるべく枝が柔らかいうちにソフトピンチをするのがポイントになってきます。
ピンチの頻度は？
バラは新苗・大苗から成木になるまで約３年かかりますが、その間はなるべく花を咲かせないように育てるのがポイントです。
ピンチをすると、切り口の下にある葉の脇（葉腋）から新しい枝が伸びてきますので、その枝も程よい高さになったら再びピンチします。
ピンチのタイミングとしては、先端のつぼみがアズキ粒ほどになったころが目安とされています。2〜３回ピンチを繰り返すことで、枝が長く強くなり、葉もたくさんつくようになります。

テキストの方にイラスト入りで載っていますので、より詳しく知りたい方はこちら↓もどうぞ。基本的には次から次に生えてくるシュートをピンチしていけば良いのですが、適宜花を咲かせてやることで、より株が充実するようです。
